Assembly international campers visit Central Catholic for scrimmage

Assembly campers from Sweden, Romania, Kosovo and Spain got the chance to hit the road and compete against one of the most storied private schools in Texas on Tuesday, taking on the Central Catholic Buttons in their home arena.

“This is the fifth year that Coach (Bruce) McConaghy has welcomed international players into his school,” Chris Dial, founder and president of The Basketball Embassy, said. “They rolled out red carpet for us once again and showed our kids what Texas hospitality looks like.”

It was a highly competitive game, but Central Catholic pulled away late, securing the 54-39 victory on their home floor. After the game concluded, players from both sides got to mingle over a a few slices of pizza.

“It was fun to watch the guys compete and try to win, and they left it all out on the floor,” Dial said. “And after the game, it was great to see everyone share a meal together and share experiences and develop new relationships.”

Assembly continues through the end of the week and will feature several more competitions between campers and teams from around the area, including a showcase on Thursday night at Trinity University.
